Bah Bye Blankey!

Oh HaPpY DaY! Edyn's blankey (or rather lack of) has finally been put to rest! This day has been a long time coming and finally we mustered up the courage to break her of this awful habit. It actually went really smooth leaving us to wonder why we hadn't tried a long time ago. We decided to go camping for a few days and we did take her mess of a blanket with us (for just in case) but decided that since she was out of her element and comfort zone that we would keep it from her and see how it went. She asked for it in the car on the way to our camp site and after hearing me say that it was gone she didn't ask for it again for the whole trip. I was shocked!

The first night I put her in her sleeping bag and laid beside her thinking that it was going to be an awful night with her crying for her blankey but no, she played with her hello kitty flashlight but while doing so I noticed that she couldn't get comfortable and was constantly moving and throwing her legs and arms all over. I think she was semi-aware that she was missing something but just couldn't figure it out. She did this for quite awhile so I yelled out to Chad, who was sitting by the fire, "I think this girl is going through withdrawals!". I guess you had to be there but I thought it was pretty funny. One other added bonus to taking her blanket away is she has drastically reduced the time she sucks on her thumb. I think I've only seen her do it a couple of times and that was when she was asleep. But whatever, her dental daddy is pretty happy about it. Awwww, I'm so proud of Edyn and so happy we got this taken care of before she heads off to preschool next week! Oh, and for amusement here is a picture of her blanket in it's entirety. Can you believe how much of it was left (see above picture) and that we actually let her out of the house with it?! I'm embarrassed!

So funny! I remember my mom kept cutting smaller and smaller pieces of my sister's blanket as time went on. Then eventually it was gone and my sister was okay with it too. They must semi-know the time with their blankets is almost up when it's not the way it used to be.

Wow, good job Edyn. She must have really shown that blankey a lot of love by the way it looked at the end. Now she's a big girl, going to school and everything!

I had mine until I was about 8. After I would destroy one my mom would have to make a new one because I just couldn't handle it. Good job Edyn!

K- Naomi!!! I am dying that the famous strip of blanket has retired!! YAYYY!!! That always made me laugh. I remember when ash was 3 and we retired his binky, i anticipated a worse reaction but it wasnt as dramatic as i had thought as well! Anyway- i cant believe she is going to preschool!! Crazy!! YAYY for a little more time to yourself. You deserve it! (but i know how that goes too and it seems you end up filling your time with other things that keep you busy!)

Yeah! I think we as moms can often build things up and think they'll be so much worse than they turn out to be. And I thought your withdrawals comment was funny. =)

I hope you actually saved the last bit of it so you can show her when she is older what she used to carry everywhere with her!
