I know I'm not the best decorator in the world but I didn't think I was that bad. So I get this email today that, well, let's just say made me think that maybe I really don't know what I'm doing. Anyhoo, really I don't care but I thought it was kind of funny that this lady took the time (and it looks like it might have been an all day project for her) to show me how it is done even though she might have not been as tactful as I would have liked. Hope you enjoy! LOL.
Hi, your house is nice but needs some color on the walls. Just to white. The three bowls in the hutch should be in the middle. Looks to empty and you have everything on one shelf inside and out. Also I think a few rugs would warm it up a little. Get a black and tan piece of material and make a square tablecloth along with the bowl and maybe put a candle on the table with it put an old book on the desk with some old glasses. Hang the board that you have on that black cupboard on the wall. Put the firkin buckets on the floor. They are to cool. Put a candle in the white ladle thing you have in there also and put that on the table. Take that ladder out of there and make your own or buy one that you put throws on. Or you could put different color material pieces folded and put on the ladder. Put that throw on your couch and get a few pillows. Put the lantern on one side of the white shelf where that little candle is, move the candle over and put one of the jars on the shelf, put closer to the back of it. Get a grungy doll to put on the chair and hang a wreath or star from the top. Get some mini blinds and valance. Get rid of those ugly curtains or open them up and put a wreath in the window. That entertainment center is god awful. Paint the whole thing cottage red and sand the edges and get some material, rip the pieces to fit about 3 inches small then the shelves. Ripping it will give it a little fringe look. Put the shutter where that awful ladder is and put the grapevine wreath on it and the star where the wreath is move the shelf down so it is eye level and put the sign about 4 inches higher than the wooden spindles. You could put that basket on that chair for now and put the jar that is on that shelf by the doll next to the red garden cart thing, put the jar on one side and the red carrier on the other side. Well, these are just a few things that I think would add a little to your house. Hope you don't mind the input. I love to decorate. Have a good one.
Sandy
Oh, if you are wondering how this lady knew what my apartment even looked like, I have pictures of our place on my website to give customers ideas on what to do with some of the items I sell. Looks like I have some rearranging to do! LOL.

That's more just plain criticism rather than "input." "Ugly" curtains? "God awful" entertainment center? She's not exactly tactful. Plus, her grammar is terrible! You're so crafty, I know you're a MUCH better decorator than me. If I were you, I wouldn't listen to her! :)
Funny how you mentioned her grammar. It was way worse than that and I had to fix it up a bit so it would flow a little better and make more sense. Thanx Gretchen for the kind words! :)
Wow! Very detailed :) I wish someone would tell me something like that . . . in a nice way. But, it's hard to imagine someone telling you as I think your apartment is so cute and so YOU! I wish I had half your creativity and decorating ideas!
What a beast!!! She may like to decorate, but everything she said sounded awful; almost to the point where it would make your house look cluttered. Girl, you don't have to change a thing; I love your place, I wish I could decorate like you!
I don't think I would take too much to heart from a person who can't even use the right "too"/"to". :) I guess some people just like to be critical...and have WAY too much time on their hands!
At least you are laughing about it...because it really made me laugh. I feel sorry for anyone who's knows that lady personally. You're place is great and it's crazy that someone would take that much time to re-arrange someone's house...online. :)
Wow, it looks like you have been found by some big jokester or else by one of the hazards of the internet! My condolences. Probably best to totally ignore because some of those people can be NO laughing matter.
Take care. We're looking forward to hearing where you intend to set up your practice.
Oh dear. That was horrible! I guess all you can really do is laugh. I have one of those in my family on my mom's side. We just smile and nod most of the time. (She once discovered why I am so fat! "Really," I said, "Enlighten me." And she proceeded to tell me, in detail, that I need to chew my food more before I swallow.) Anyway, don't bother with such an email. The woman's arm is problem broken from trying to pat her own back. Love you, Naomi!
Wow! I can't even imagine someone taking all that time. And, hello, your place is already AMAZING!! If it gets any cuter, how will the rest of us cope? :)
I agree with everyone above. Your place is wonderful, and I am amazed that, with the detailed interest she showed the photos, she didn't bother to read that 1) you rent and aren't allowed to paint, 2) you have small children, 3) your husband is in school, and 4) you ACTUALLY LIVE THERE! (How did you get the kids to cooperate so you could take the pictures?)
Not only is your home warm and inviting, I may need your expert help here in CT! The whole house is primitive and/or evil 30 years old "renovations"/decorating (anti-decorating?). The crackly paint is cool, but the splintery floors are a challenge. . .
OK - are you serious about this? Oh boy. You know- i am learning in my old age that there really are warped people and people that really are just not nice and mean and they will always be there whether i like it or not. So, my opinion (even though it is easier said than done) is to completely ignore her. Seriously just laugh at what a poor soul she has to be to feel comfortable writing all that to a complete stranger. Seriously. Really i am all talk b/c i would love to just email her back (or better yet call her) and tell her a think or two. AHHH! some people!! Anyway- you dont me to be the 11th person to tell you how cute your house is. But it really is. I am always thinking that i wish i had your knack for htings like decorating and finding the most awesome furniture for great prices...i wouldnt even know where to start. I truly, truly, truly hope you dont change one tiny thing about your house. PLLLLEAAASSE dont. I love your house...always have. I can't believe she seriously talked about every tiny think in your room- down to the bowls, etc... she mus have blown up the picture on a projector and went to town. OK- i'll stop now on my rampage. You know i love you!!!
I would just reply to the email by saying, "You're ugly and your mother dresses you funny," and be done with it. :-) Now that kind of 'criticism' would have been better spent on Chad's stache... I only say that cause I'm jealous.
I love the stuff you sell, its so awesome!!!
